September 5 Devotional Meditation
By Dr Patrick Elijah Anyomi
Key Text: 1 John 5:11-12 (ESV): “And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life [zoe], and this life [zoe] is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life [zoe]; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life [zoe].”
Devotional
God makes a very simple and amazing statement: He has given us eternal life. The original Greek word used here is zoe (pronounced zo-ay).
This is a special kind of life. It doesn't just mean living forever. Zoe is God’s own life—His powerful, sickness free, joyful, peaceful, and loving kind of life. It is the very life that makes God who He is.
This incredible zoe-life isn't floating around somewhere for us to find. The Bible says it is stored up, or kept, "in his Son." Jesus is like the container that holds this life. He is the source of it.
This leads to a very simple truth: if you have Jesus, you have this zoe-life. If you don't have Jesus, you don't have it. To "have the Son" means you have welcomed Him into your life and trusted Him as your Savior. It’s not about being good enough; it’s about receiving a Person.
For those of us who believe, this is our greatest blessing. The moment we put our faith in Jesus, God placed His own zoe-life inside our human spirits. This means:
· You don't just hope for eternal life; you have it right now.· You have God's power inside you to help you live each day.· You have His health, peace and joy available, even on hard days.· Your life is secure because it is connected to Jesus, who can never be taken from you.
You don't have to work to get this life. You simply need to remember it's already in you because you have Jesus.
A Time of Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your simple and amazing gift. Thank You that You didn't just tell me about life—You gave me Your very own zoe-life when I received Your Son, Jesus.
Help me to understand and remember today that because I have Jesus, I have Your life inside me. When I feel weak, remind me that Your strength is in me. When I feel worried, remind me that Your peace is in me. when I feel sick Remind me your health is at work in me. When I feel alone, remind me that You are with me.
I am so grateful that my life is safe in You. Help me to live today drawing on Your life inside me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
