December 9 Devotional Meditation
By Dr Patrick Elijah Anyomi
Key Text:
"Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy." — Habakkuk 3:2
Devotional Meditation:
The prophet Habakkuk stands on the precipice of national crisis and dares to pray an audacious, history-altering prayer. It is a prayer not born of casual curiosity, but of desperate faith. He has "heard of Your fame"—the stories of the Red Sea parting, the walls of Jericho falling, the fire falling on Carmel. But hearing is not enough. He cries out for the God of history to become the God of "our day." He pleads for the ancient fame to become a present fame, for the old deeds to be repeated with fresh power.
Beloved, this is the heart-cry of a solemn assembly! We are not merely commemorating what God did; we are contending for what He must do again. For 39 days, you have fasted and prayed not as a ritual, but as a declaration that the God of Elijah, the God of Daniel, the God of Pentecost is the same God for our generation. Your hunger has been a statement: "The testimonies of old are not enough; we need a visitation now. In our cities, our schools, our homes—in our time, make Your power known!"
Habakkuk's prayer holds a profound balance: "in wrath remember mercy." He acknowledges the righteousness of God's judgment but appeals to the greater covenant of His mercy. In our day, as we see the consequences of sin and rebellion, we too cry out for the mercy that triumphs over judgment. We plead for a revival that is not just about miracles, but about massive, sweeping salvation—a tidal wave of mercy that washes multitudes into the kingdom.
Prayer for Revival in Our Time:
God of All Generations! We echo the cry of Habakkuk with hearts ablaze.
· We have heard of Your fame and we stand in awe. But we dare to ask: Repeat Your deeds in our day!· In our time, in our cities, in our
families, make Your power known with undeniable demonstration.· We stand in the gap for our nation. In wrath, remember mercy. Let a great harvest of souls be the hallmark of this revival.
· We ask not for a temporary emotional stir, but for a tectonic shift in the spiritual landscape—churches filled, addictions broken, families restored, and a culture transformed by Your glory.
· We offer ourselves as vessels for this move of God. Use our lives, our prayers, and our testimonies to ignite the fire.
Reviver of the Dry Bones! Breathe upon this generation. Do it again, Lord! Let the wind of Pentecost blow through our streets. Let the fire of revival fall on our altars. Let the rain of the Spirit flood our dry ground. For the sake of Your great name, act in our time! In the mighty and merciful name of Jesus, Amen!
Declaration for Revival:
"The God of history is the God of my generation. He is repeating His mighty deeds in my day. Revival is here. Mercy is triumphing. My life is a catalyst for a fresh move of God's Spirit in my time!"
