December 19 Devotional Meditation
By Dr Patrick Elijah Anyomi
Key Text:
"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich." — 2 Corinthians 8:9 (NIV)
Devotional Meditation:
Get ready for the most spectacular, mind-blowing, and joyful transaction in the history of the universe! This isn't just a sweet Christmas sentiment—it's a legal declaration of the GREAT EXCHANGE! Paul reveals the staggering economics of God's grace: Jesus, who owned everything—every galaxy, every resource, all heavenly glory—voluntarily emptied Himself. He traded the worship of angels for the cry of an infant, the throne of heaven for a feeding trough, infinite riches for utter dependency. Why? For your sake! His love identified your need, and His grace engineered the solution.
But here’s the explosion of Christmas joy: His poverty had a purpose! It was the down payment on your supernatural wealth. The word "rich" here (plouteō) doesn't just mean financial abundance—it means to be abundantly supplied in every way! Spiritually, you are now a child of the King with full inheritance rights. Emotionally, you possess a peace and joy that circumstances can't touch. Relationally, you are reconciled to God and placed in His family. This is the gift of grace—undeserved, unearned, and overwhelmingly generous!
So throw off every whisper of lack, unworthiness, or spiritual poverty! Christmas is the proof that God’s heart is to elevate you through the humility of His Son. The manger is where the transfer of wealth began, and the cross is where it was secured. Your "riches" are found in Christ—in His righteousness, His favor, His life, and His boundless love for you. That’s worth celebrating with shouts of praise!
Prayer of Grateful Reception:
Lord Jesus, Grace-Giver! Our hearts overflow with gratitude for Your glorious exchange!
· We stand in awe of Your grace—that You left the riches of heaven and embraced poverty for our sake.
· We receive, with humble joy, the spiritual riches You purchased for us: forgiveness, righteousness, peace, and eternal life.
· We renounce every mindset of poverty—spiritual, emotional, or material—and we walk in the abundance of our inheritance in You.
· We celebrate that because You became poor, we are now rich in God! Help us to be generous stewards of this grace.
· This Christmas, let the reality of this great exchange fill us with such overwhelming thankfulness that it spills out in worship and generosity to others.
Generous King! Open our eyes to see the true wealth we have in You. May our lives be a living testimony of the riches of Your grace, drawing others to experience this glorious gift. In the all-sufficient name of Jesus, Amen!
Declaration of Inherited Riches:
"Because Jesus became poor for me, I am rich in God! I walk in the fullness of my inheritance—forgiven, favored, and fulfilled. The great exchange of grace is my reality. I am abundantly supplied in Christ!"
